Tshiozwi Dynamos were too strong for their younger brothers, Tshiozwi Anchors, when they beat them 2-1 in their local MMK Insurance Brokers derby at Tshiozwi on Saturday.
Anchors squandered numerous scoring opportunities, making the result a false reflection of the game. It took the referee, Mr Sonnyboy Netshiavha, five minutes to flash the first yellow card. Vhutshilo Mafunisa of Anchors obstructed Murendeni Tshidada just outside the box.
Anchors missed a fortune in the 11th minute. Their centre forward, Sello “Ferrari” Molewa, could not believe his eyes when his volley hit the woodwork and landed outside the field of play for a goal kick.
As if that was not enough to upset the team’s fans, Aluwani “Killer” Nedzamba caused another upset seven minutes later. His close-range ground cutter missed the goal mouth by inches. Dynamos gained momentum with time and took control of the match.
Anchors took the lead in the 38th minute when their overlapping midfielder, Takalani Mulaudzi, blasted in a rocket from the 25-meter area. Dynamos came close to scoring three minutes before the break. Mashudu Nengovhela unleashed from the left corner, but the ball crossed to the other end as there was no one inside the box to give it the final touch. Anchors were still one goal up when the teams adjourned for half time.
Mpho Muvhango of Dynamos was booked for an unlawful tackle. He tackled Livy Machaba from behind in the 64th minute. Dynamos replaced Collins Rasise and Nyathi Muvhango with Velaphi Mphaphuli and Naledzani Maruli respectively. The introduction of the two was a clever move from the Dynamos technical team. Dynamos were awarded a penalty and Mashudu Nengovhela scored from the white spot.
Maruli of Dynamos was given a red card for kicking his opponent, Vhutshilo Mafunisa. Mafunisa left the pitch on a stretcher and was taken to the hospital. Dynamos snatched their second goal in the 84th minute.
