Humiliating defeat for Dynamos

Sport  Date: 07 March 2003

GIYANI – Last Saturday was a sad day for the pride of Mopani, Dynamos Football Club. They unexpectedly suffered a 0-3 defeat at the hands of Santos Football Club, in a thrilling Castle Premiership League match at the Giyani Stadium.

The scoreboard was still blank at half time despite numerous attempts at goal from both sides. The domestic lads had more regrets. The Capetonians came back strongly in the last stanza. They were on target in the 50th minute. Tyron Arendse unleashed a powerful shot from within the box after a corner kick that was taken by Fees Moloi.

Dynamos' left back Irvan Zwane was cautioned for rough tackling Edries Burton in the 54th minute. The visitors fortified their defence by introducing Sebastian Bax for John Mbizo. Dynamos on the other hand replaced their diminutive striker, Josam Ndou with Soul Mmethi.

The next player to go into the referee's book was Dennis Vukubyi of Santos. He rough tackled Dynamos' captain, Lifa Qosha. Jean Marc Ithier capitalised on the Dynamos keeper Aime Kitenge's poor handling and finished off a rebound in the 74th minute.

Dynamos nearly pulled one back when the Santos keeper, Andre Arendse fisted Frank Makua's volley away for a corner kick in the 80th minute. Fees Moloi scored Santos' third goal. He blasted in a rocket after a perfect pass from Dennis Vukubyi. This was Dynamos' third defeat in a row.
