Away defeat for mighty Dynamos

GIYANI – Dynamos gave away league points following their 2-1 defeat at the hands of Wits University in a Castle Premiership match played at the Milpark Stadium in Johannesburg last Friday night. The match was evenly contested.

The two teams played excellent football despite the heavy rain that poured for the better part of the first half. The home team was the first to show an appetite for goals when midfielder Gert Schalkwyk set up Stuart Murisa in the 13th minute with a perfect pass though the latter's blistering shot was cleared by the visitors' defender, Ivan Zwane.

The match official Ace Ngcobo flashed his first yellow card in the 19th minute when Cliff Ntiwane rough-tackled Schalkwyk. Meshack Tsotetsi replaced Schalkwyk who was later taken to hospital with an ankle injury.

Dynamos came close to scoring in the 44th minute when Sydney Mushikaro came face to face with goalkeeper, Wayne Roberts who saved a certain goal by kicking the ball away from Mushikaro. Dynamos were the first to score in the 57th minute.

Jackie Ledwaba finished off a telling move that was initiated by Frank Makua and Josam Ndou in the middle of the park. The students got the equaliser ten minutes thereafter through Ivan Winstanely. This was after Murisa sent in a cross that beat everybody including the Dynamos keeper Aime Kitenge.

Dynamos tried all the tricks in the book in search of an equaliser but they could not find their way through the defence of Wits, which was marshalled by Tony Coyle. Gareth Devine who came on as a substitute scored the winning goal for Wits six minutes before the end of the game.
