Local teams meet in festive challenge

Sinthumule/Kutama Community Sport Development launched the festive soccer challenge at Benny's Care in Tshiozwi on Saturday. Twenty-four teams based in the area will be competing in the event.

According to the media liaison officer of the organisers, Mr Elvis Phathela, they will use three venues on the first day: the Ravele Dragons grounds, the Muduluni grounds and the Muraleni grounds.

He revealed that four soccer kits will be at stake in the tournament. Apart from the soccer kits which the winning teams will be presented with, the overall champions will go home with a cash prize of R10 000, a floating trophy and gold medals. The runners-up will go home with R6 000, a new kit and silver medals. The team ending in third position will pocket R3 000, a new soccer kit and bronze medals.

The fourth-placed team will receive R2 000, while the four teams beaten in the quarterfinal will go home with R800 each. The four teams losing in the second stage of the tournament will bank R500 each, while each of the 12 teams beaten in the first matches will get R400.

The participating teams are Mpheni Home Defenders, Makhitha Oscar Stars, Makhitha Iyarunga, Zoutpansberg Powerline, Tshiozwi All Stars, Tshiozwi Anchors, Magau FC, Madombidzha Try Again, Madombidzha Western Stars, Madombidzha Celtic, Ramantsha FC, Ravele Highlanders, Ravele Black Dragons, Muraleni Rebellion, Muraleni United, Madodonga United, Muduluni Young Chiefs, Baroka FC, MML FC, Zamenkomste Liverpool, Zamenkomste Happy Boys, Maebane Aces United and Maebane Young Eagles.
