MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) - The Premjee Zero to Hero Fitness Challenge got off to a cracking start in week one, with the P&L Hardware Cycling Club signing up 90 new members at the two induction meetings.

Week one was adaptation week, with the challengers getting into the habit of attending exercise sessions and having their bicycles correctly set up. The program includes gym circuit training, spinning and riding a bike on the road.

The first long ride on Saturday ended in a festive spirit as all the challengers celebrated completing the course, though some needed a helping hand up the long hills on the N1. For many, this first long ride was a major achievement as they had last done anything as strenuous many years ago.

This coming Saturday the participants undergo their first fitness test with a 5km Time Trial as a measure of endurance and a 200m hill climb to measure strength.
