Lucky ABSA draw for local PSL sides

Sport  Date: 11 February 2005

THOHOYANDOU – The draw for this season’s Absa Cup matches was held at the Carlton Centre in Johannesburg on Sunday afternoon. A quick glance at the fixtures shows that two of the three Limpopo-based teams, Dynamos and Black Leopards, have been favoured by the draw in their last 32 fixtures.

Apart from the fact that they will be playing in front of their home supporters, Lidoda Duvha and the pride of Giyani have been matched with teams from the lower divisions.

Black Leopards will host Young City Killers at the Thohoyandou Stadium. Young City Killers are campaigning in the Vodacom Promotional League and the fact that they are an unknown quantity to Black Leopards is a reason on its own for the local lads not to underestimate them, as they might be in for a lifetime shock.

On the other hand, Dynamos Football Club will entertain an affiliate of the Mvela Golden League or Premier First Division, as it is commonly known, Durban Stars Football Club. The match will be played at the Giyani Stadium.

A local Castle Regional League team, Bilika All Stars, will host Kaizer Chiefs at Giyani Stadium. The first matches will be played on Sunday, February 27, while the final is scheduled for May 28. The champions will become R1,5million richer while the runners-up will take home a cool million.

The full draw is: Peoples Bank Spurs vs Uthukhela FC, Tornado vs Louisville Pirates, Winnerspark vs Cemforce, Black Leopards vs Young City Stars, Supersport vs Hellenic, Bidvest Wits University vs Sasolburg Juventus, Ledwaba Power Stars vs Mamelodi Sundowns, Bilika All Stars vs Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates vs Silver Stars, Bush Bucks vs Bloemfontein Celtic, Manning Rangers vs Pietersburg Pillars, Beufor West City vs Santos FC, Dangerous Darkies vs Martitzburg United, Golden Arrows vs Jomo Cosmos, Moroka Swallows vs Ajax Cape Town and Dynamos vs Durban Stars.
