Leopards vs Vasco in Nedbank Cup Top 8

Sport  Date: 10 April 2015

The much-awaited Nedbank competition quarterfinal match between Black Leopards and Vasco da Gama takes place at the Thohoyandou Stadium tomorrow afternoon (Saturday).

It will be the second time for Leopards and Da Gama to meet in the space of one month. Leopards recently beat Vasco 1-0 in a league match in Thohoyandou.

Lidoda Duvha’s way to the Top 8 went via Kaizer Chiefs, whom they beat 2-1 at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. Da Gama beat Maluti FET College 3-0 at the Parow Park Stadium to secure a place in the quarterfinals.

It remains to be seen whether the Vasco defence will have the power to stop the Leopards' goal poachers, Ruggert Nyundu and Leonard Ntshangase. Leopards' defenders, Harry Nyirenda and Thivhavhudzi Ndou, are expected to keep their danger area clean. On the other hand, Black Leopards must keep a watchful eye on the Vasco strikers, Aleni Lebyane and Sibusiso Mxoyana, or else they will not know what hit them.

The spokesperson for Black Leopards, Mr Berry Ramunenyiwa, appealed to the fans to buy their tickets at Computicket in time. No ticket will be sold at the stadium.

In the other Nedbank matches that will also be played over the weekend, three-time winners Supersport United will play against the NFD side, Lamontville Golden Arrows, at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.

Mamelodi Sundowns will travel to the Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga for their match against Mpumalanga Black Aces on Sunday. The toughest match will be between Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits at the Cape Town Stadium.

The champions of the competition will receive a whopping R6 million cash prize.
