MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – The annual Kremetart Cycle Race has over the years grown to become one of the biggest sporting events in the far northern part of the province.
This year, however, organisers plan to expand interest in the event beyond cycling by also offering something for the local community and visitors.
To this end, four local service organisations (Zoutpansberg Round Table 66, the Rotary Club of Louis Trichardt, Ladies Circle 4 and the MOTHS) were approached to assist, not only as before in certain aspects of the race, but also in terms of the ancillary organisation and entertainment around the race. These organisations are proactive in their community and have contributed hugely to the welfare of those less fortunate. In 2004 an estimated combined income for charitable projects of R350 000 was raised.
The Kremetart Community Festival Committee was established to plan and organise a Bushveld Carnival at the local show ground. The organisers are inviting all interested parties to apply for food stalls and other stalls of interest at the show grounds. The stalls should preferably have a Bushveld character and “flea market” type of stalls are discouraged. “The emphasis will be on tourism,” says one of the organisers.
Monies raised through the festival will be equally divided into fifths. Each of the four community organisations will receive 20% for their charity projects. The final 20% will be pledged to a common cause.
For more information regarding stalls, phone Pam Schoeman at Tel (015) 516 5875 or Godfrey Went at 082 897 5350.
