After registering a historic 10-1 victory over Ramukhuba FC in their MMK Administrators League match at the Ramukhuba grounds on Saturday, Tshakhuma RO United shared the spoils with Rockers FC 1-1 at the Makwarela Stadium the following day.
Although they had nothing to lose in the match, Rockers gave United a run for their money. Rockers were in the fourth position when going into the match, while United desperately needed the points in order to maintain their leadership on the log. It was evident from the onset that the teams were at each other’s throats. The first 20 minutes of the game were characterized by dangerous tackles.
The referee, Mr Calvin Nemavhola, refused to see any player go unpunished. He flashed three yellow cards within the space of 15 minutes. Rotondwa Kutame of Rockers was booked for dangerous play on Lufuno Mugodi in the eighth minute. Ndivhuwo Makhado of United and Mulalo Kudzingana of Rockers were also booked for similar infringements in the 10th and 14th minute respectively.
No goal was scored in the first half, despite the fact that the teams created numerous scoring chances. Rockers strengthened their midfield by introducing their vastly experienced players, Tshifhiwa Ramaphosa and Tsumbedzo Manamela, early in the last half. They took the lead in the 64th minute. A substitute, Tsumbedzo “Zoo” Manamela, scored after a scramble within the box.
United did not lose hope, despite the fact that time was fast running out. Their left winger, Takalani Ratshilima, was brought down within the box. That was a clear penalty for United. Elvis Netshidongololo converted from the white spot. Ofhani Mudau of Rockers was given his marching orders for handling the ball intentionally in the 78th minute.
