The opening matches of the Petrus Madzuhe Soccer Tournament were played at the Maranzhe grounds over the past weekend.

Fifteen teams, viz. Maranzhe Hungry Lions, Maranzhe Barcelona, Vondo Vibes, Vhutshavhelo FC, Matondoni Home Sweepers, Phiphidi Mighty Bush Bucks, Tshiawelo Bosveld United, Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions, Nzhelele United Stars, Mukumbani Shooting Stars, Maximum Force FC, Tshilapfene Arsenal, Phandulaluvalo FC, The Dolphins FC and Themba Sunrise Riders, are taking part in the tournament.

The results of last weekend’s matches are: Vhutshavhelo FC 6, Tshiawelo Bosveld United 5; The Dolphins 1, Phiphidi Mighty Bush Bucks 0; Themba Sunrise Riders 2, Tshilapfene Arsenal 0; Maranzhe Hungry Lions 1, Vondo Vibes 0; Matondoni Home Sweepers 4, Mukumbani Shooting Stars 3; Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions 4, Maximum Force 2;  Phandulaluvalo FC 3, Maranzhe Barcelona 0 and Nzhelele United Stars 2, Vondo Vibes 0.

The quarterfinal matches will be played at the same venue tomorrow (Saturday), while the semifinal and final are scheduled for Sunday.

The quarterfinal fixtures are: Phandulaluvalo FC vs Matondoni Home Sweepers, Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions vs Nzhelele United Stars, Maranzhe Hungry Lions vs Tshiwelo Bosveld United and The Dolphins FC vs Themba Sunrise Riders.

The champions will be receive R5 000, a floating trophy and soccer kit. The runners-up will take home R3 000 and a soccer kit while the third- and fourth-placed teams will be given R2 300 and R1 700 respectively.

The teams booted out of the tournament in the quarterfinals will each receive a consolation prize of R250. Individual awards will be presented to the top goal scorer, best player of the tournament and the best goalkeeper.
