The Werda Toyota Vikings team extended their unbeaten run this weekend in the local Limpopo Dairy 20/20 league against the Mustangs on Louis Trichardt’s A field.
The Vikings won the toss and elected to bat first. Their openers created a great platform with a 100-run partnership between Freek Breytenbach (61 runs off 53 balls) and Craig Viljoen (49 runs off 39 balls) and helped steer the Vikings to a total of 171 runs for the loss of four wickets in their allotted 20 overs. With such a great opening, most Mustang bowlers were a bit expensive. Kajur Premjee, however, stood out by taking two wickets for the loss of 27 runs in his four overs. Thinus Stadler also bowled a tight spell and, although not taking any wickets, he sacrificed only 14 runs in his four overs.
The Mustangs put up a valiant effort, but could only manage to put 128 run on the score board before they were bowled out in 18.5 overs. Top performers with the bat for the Mustang were John Phillips (27 runs off 25 balls) and Ludri Rautenbach (22 runs off 13 balls). Needless to say, the Viking bowlers were devastating, with Craig Viljoen taking three wickets for the loss of 17 runs and Morné Olwage taking three wickets for the loss of 25 runs in their four overs. Warno Smit also bowled a very quick four overs, taking one wicket for the loss of 18 runs.
