Defenders beat Wayeni in play-offs

Mpheni Home Defenders were too good for Wayeni Sea Robbers and beat them 2-0 during the MMK Admistrators play-off match played at Tshifulanani Stadium on Saturday.

The victory did not reflect the game in general as Defenders outsmarted their opponents from the onset. The boys from Wayeni were lucky not to concede half a dozen goals during the first half, as they were out of touch in all departments.

Defenders missed two clear chances in the first 10 minutes. Dakalo Nwanamidwa shot wide from close range after receiving a neat pass from Given Ndou in the fourth minute. As if that was not enough to heat up the fans, Ndou caused another upset three minutes later. He released aimlessly from outside the box, much to the disappointment of the team’s supporters. The half-time score was 0-0.

Defenders finally broke the deadlock in the 68th minute. The long-range ground cutter of their left flank, Ndaedzo Mareda, left the Wayeni  keeper, Engedzani Sambo, flat-footed.

Both sides effected two changes in the last half. Defenders capitalised on a lapse in concentration and scored their second goal five minutes before the full-time whistle via Melvin Mabatha. Secret Mathebula and Forget Baloyi of Wayeni missed sitters in the dying minutes.
