GM secures a narrow four run win in clash

Amidst the Proteas’ tour of Bangladesh, local cricketers also took to the field in the next round of the Limpopo Dairy 20/20 league in Louis Trichardt.

The game between Limpopo Dairy and GM was a closely contested one.

GM batted first and only managed to put 102 runs on the scoreboard before they were bowled out. The only two batsmen who managed to get to double figures were Irfan Chanhiel (21) and Ikram Patel (18). The Limpopo bowlers who performed the best were Gerhard, who took two wickets for the loss of eight runs in three overs, and TJ Smi,t who took one wicket for the loss of 12 runs in three overs.

Limpopo might have thought the score easy to chase, but that proved not to be the case, with GM ending up winning the game by four runs. With only 98 runs on the board, Limpopo were bowled out, due to some magnificent bowling. As with GM, only two batsmen got to double figures, namely Leon Olwage (23) and TJ Smit (28). For GM, bowler Mustak Patel was devastating, taking five wickets for the loss of 22 runs in his four overs. He was well supported by Yasar Delawala, who took two wickets for the loss of 14 runs in four overs.

In the other match, the Werda Toyota Vikings came up against the Lukeman team. Lukeman batted first and managed to rack up 160 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs. Top performers with the bat were Sandeep Patel, scoring 49 runs off 52 balls, and Salman Kara hitting a quick 48 runs in 36 balls. The Vikings bowlers who stood out were Morné Olwage, taking three wickets for the loss of 34 runs in his four overs, and Shameel Govenor, who took two wickets for the loss of two runs in one over.

Vikings took to the field and started chasing the score immediately. Batsman Warno Smit excelled, scoring a very, very fast 60 runs off only 22 balls. He was well supported by Craig Viljoen, who hit 21 of 19 balls. Smit’s runs, however, were enough to secure a good foundation and the Vikings took victory in 18.3 overs with 161 runs on the board for the loss of six wickets, winning by four wickets. Top performer in the bowling team was Imram Bhatia, who took two wickets for the loss of 33 runs in four overs. Lukeman MS also took two wickets, but for the loss of 32 runs in 2.3 overs.
