The tournament to honour the late soccer legend, Joseph “Mabena” Mashamba, will take place at the Mashamba grounds on Saturday and Sunday.
Eight teams will battle it out and, according to the organiser, Mr Freddy Mashamba, the first prize is R4 000, a floating trophy and gold medals. The runners-up will go home with R3 000 and silver medals. The team ending up in position three will collect R2 000 and bronze medals, while R1 000 awaits the team that will end in fourth position.
Saturday's fixtures are: Mulima FC vs Mukondeni Ratanang (09:00); Wayeni Sea Robbers vs Mashamba Benfica United (11:00); Mpheni Home Defenders vs Mukondeni Shooting Stars (13:00) and Mashamba Soccer Academy vs Muwaweni Lucky Stars (15:00).
The semi-finals and final will be played on Sunday at the same venue.
Kaizer Nengovhela started writing stories for Limpopo Mirror in 2000. Prior to that he had a five year stint at Phala-Phala FM as sports presenter. In 2005 Kaizer received an award from the province's premier as Best Sports Presenter. The same year he was also nominated as Best Sports Reporter by the Makhado Municipality. Kaizer was awarded the Mathatha Tsedu award in 2014.
