The SAB League provincial promotional play-off matches which were scheduled for last weekend at the Mahwelereng Stadium in Mokopane were postponed until next weekend, 22 and 23 August.
According to the Safa provincial secretary, Mr Patrick Seema, the postponement was influenced by the pending arbitration case involving clubs from the Waterberg District.
When asked about the possibility of further postponement in the event that the pending arbitration case was not finalized before next weekend, Seema said that the case would be laid to rest this weekend. He further indicated that the league was concerned about the province’s delay in producing the teams to play in the ABC Motsepe League.
He said that clubs that wouldbe promoted to the higher league would not have enough time to prepare for the new season, saying time was fast running out for them. He revealed that the activities for the new ABC Motsepe League season are likely to start in the second week of next month. The overall champions from the five districts will take part in the play-offs.
The five teams that will partake in the two-day event are: Boyne Young Tigers (Capricorn), Schinord Chiefs (Sekhukhune), Nkowankowa Barcelona (Mopani), United Artists (Vhembe) and the representative from Waterberg, which is still to be confirmed.
The opening match on Saturday will be between the team from Waterberg and Boyne Young Tigers, starting at 08:00. Nkowankowa Barcelona will lock horns with United Artists at 10:00. Schinord Chiefs will play their first match against the Waterberg side soon afterwards, while United Artists will meet Boyne Young Tigers at 14:00. The day’s programme will be wrapped up by the match between Schinord Chiefs and Nkowankowa Barcelona.
United Artists and Schinord Chiefs will open the play on Sunday morning, starting at 08:00, followed by Nkowankowa Barcelona and Boyne Young Tigers at 10:00. The other Sunday fixtures are: Waterberg vs United Artists (12:00), Schinord Chiefs vs Boyne Young Tigers (14:00) and Waterberg vs Nkowankowa Barcelona (16:00).
