POLOKWANE – The Limpopo Cricket Union started its fully-fledged program for women’s cricket. Michelle van Niekerk, previously the province’s U/19 girls’ captain, is now employed to coach the club and provincial teams.

Michelle hails from Louis Trichardt and is a former student of Louis Trichardt High School. It was here where her love for cricket was born and initially developed. She studied for three years at Tuks.

At the launch of women’s cricket two weeks ago, it was decided to have a Woman’s Club Cricket festival in Polokwane, which also coincides with the celebration of Women’s Day on Monday, August 9. The weekend will start off with a braai on Friday night and matches between Letaba, Ellisras, Louis Trichardt and Polokwane on Saturday and Sunday. A formal league will be planned, as well as the possible selection of a provincial squad.

The venue will be at Piet Joubert School.

This program forms a very important part of the Limpopo Cricket Union’s structures and they request all girls and young women to assist them in making this an elite program.
