MAKHADO (LOUIS TRICHARDT) – With just over a week left until the hosting of this year’s annual Kremetart One-Day Stage Race, entries are still streaming in.
Already the Kremetart, now in its fifteenth year, has shown a 60% growth from last year with close to a 1 000 cyclists entering for the 175km main event. At the time of going to press, some 1 600 cyclists have already entered for both the main and 100km event, as well as the 30km fun ride. As from this year, the 100km event will also serve as qualifier for the annual Cape Argus and is also sure to attract huge interest.
Apart from top South African cyclists such as Morné Bester, Ronel van Wyk and Altie Pienaar competing in this year’s Kremetart, this highly popular One-Day Stage Race also attracted interest from abroad with cyclists from Switzerland, America and Mauritius. Five professional racing teams are also expected to battle it out, with television coverage from Super Cycling on June 4.
This year’s Kremetart One-Day Stage race will coincide with the first Kremetart Cycling and Bushveld Festival. The festival will start on June 3 and end on June 4. It will include a strong-man competition, food stalls, beer garden, R10 000 “diamond rush,” a model aircraft display, a 4x4 demonstration and much more. Live entertainment includes performances by the Kilted Avenger and Adam Tas. On Saturday, a live band will play music the whole day. The festival and race are sure to once again put Louis Trichardt on the map and residents will only have to blame themselves if they lose out on this annual event. It is speculated that the two-day event will attract more than 3 000 cyclists and family members.
