United Artists disappoint in play-offs

Sport  Date: 11 September 2015

United Artists failed to make the grade in the SAB League promotional play-off matches at the Mahwelereng Stadium in Mokopane over the past weekend. They followed in the footsteps of Mukula Young Santos and Tshifhire Northern Brothers, who also failed to be promoted the previous two seasons.

United Artists won two of the four matches they played during the two-day event, drew one and lost one.

They finished the tournament in the fourth position, with seven points. They started the tournament with a bang when they beat Nkowankowa Barcelona 2-1 on Saturday morning. Their second match was against Boyne Young Tigers, against whom they played to a goalless draw.

The Lufule-based side strengthened their chances of gaining promotion to the ABC Motsepe Promotional League by overpowering Schinoord Chiefs 4-2 on Sunday morning. Artists wrapped up their program by losing 1-3 to Happy Hearts from the Waterberg Region on Sunday afternoon.

United Artists, Nkowankowa Barcelona, Boyne Young Tigers and Happy Hearts finished the tournament with seven points each, but Nkowankowa Barcelona (Mopani) and Boyne Young Tigers (Capricorn) gained promotion to the higher division. They were promoted by virtue of having more goals than United Artists and Happy Hearts.
