In their Amos Charity Shield Soccer Tournament match at the Tshakhuma Malaria grounds on Saturday, Tshakhuma Na Ndilani (TNN) FC and Tshakhuma RO United played to a 1-1 draw.
The result was not a true reflection of the game as RO United were by far the better side when it came to ball possession. The absence of Lufuno “CJ” Mugodi in United’s striking force was evident from the onset. United threatened to score in the eighth minute. Their slender striker, Tondani Nkhumeleni, forced his way through the defence of TNN and unleashed a volley from the penalty area. The ball went far wide, much to the disappointment of the fans.
TNN took the game to their opponents soon afterwards but it was only for some moments as United regained momentum with time. United were the first to blow the trumpet. Tondani Nkhumeleni forced his way through the defence of TNN and blasted in a rocket from within the box in the 24th minute.
United continued to squander scoring chances as the game progressed. TNN woke up towards the end of the first half. They found the equalizer before the referee blew the half-time whistle. The keeper of United, Khuthadzo Mukomafhedzi, mishandled the ball and Fhatuwani Nemusumani, who was watching closely, capitalized on the setback and hooked in the loose ball.
TNN strengthened their midfield by introducing Rofhiwa Netshiungani for Oscar Ntshauba in the 64th minute. Both sides created numerous scoring chances later in the game, but their strikers seemed to have forgotten their scoring boots at home.
RO United rectified their mistakes and beat Tshakhuma Peace Lovers 2-1 at the Tshisimani Campus grounds the following day.
