Maweja Takers strengthened their chances of taking part in the final of the Amos Charity Shield Soccer Tournament by beating FC KK 2-1 in their round-robin match at the Tshisimani Campus grounds on Sunday.

Maweja approached the game like a house on fire, with their midfielders distributing telling passes to their strikers. KK were lucky not to have conceded an avalanche of goals within the first 20 minutes. Maweja were dictating terms in all departments.

Maweja opened their account in the 18th minute. Zwivhuya Tshisaphungo made no mistake after receiving a square pass from his captain, Khuliso Netshaulu. KK took the game to Maweja in the last 15 minutes of the first half. That forced Maweja to play defensive football as a way to neutralize the opponents.

The keeper of Maweja, Khuliso Simba, was reprimanded with a card, following a continued argument with the referee, Mr Eric Munyai. Maweja enjoyed their 1-0 lead until the end of the first half. Maweja increased the margin seven minutes into the last half. Their front runner, Zwivhuya Tshisaphungo, was brought down within the box. The referee warned a defender of FC KK, Tshifhiwa Ndou, with a card before awarding a penalty to Maweja. The team’s captain, Khuliso Netshaulu, converted from the white spot.

Netshaulu sustained an injury in the 65th minute. He was replaced with Takalani Ramagalela. KK pulled one back in the 74th minute. Walter Mphigalale finished off a rebound after a scramble within the box. Maweja played defensive football for the remaining part of the game.
