The annual Mulindavhathu Soccer Challenge tournament will continue to be staged in the future, although Vhamusanda Vho-Mulindavhathu Randima, after whom the tournament is named, will not be sponsoring the tournament anymore.

Randima revealed this during the prize-giving ceremony that was held at the Khubvi Tshiseluselu chief’s kraal on Sunday afternoon. He appealed to the other traditional leaders to support community development projects like tournaments, saying a true traditional leader gave back of his income to the community he led.

The champions of the competition, Khubvi Peace Makers, were presented with R2 000, a floating trophy, soccer kit, gold medals and a soccer ball during the ceremony. The second-placed Khubvi Dangerous Darkies received R1 500, silver medals, soccer kit and a soccer ball. Dangerous Darkies lost 0-1 to Peace Makers in the final.

The teams booted out in the semifinals, MT Green Mambas and Mudaswali United Brothers, took home soccer kit and a soccer ball each. The player of the tournament, Rudzani Mmbengeni of Khubvi Peace Makers, was presented with a certificate.

The defending champions, Sambandou United Professionals, were booted out in the group stages.Vhamusanda Vho-Mulindavhathu Randima was also presented with a certificate as a token of appreciation for his good governance.

One of the organizers, Mr Trevor Mbedzi, stated that the tournament had been founded in 2011.
