The much-talked-about NFD Limpopo derby between the current log leaders, Baroka FC, and Black Leopards at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium ended in a goalless draw on Saturday.
The game was a balanced affair in the first 15 minutes, but Baroka created more scoring opportunities. Leopards started to demonstrate their rough skills, but the referee, Mr Victor Hlungwani, calmed the situation by reprimanding Thivhavhudzi Ndou with a yellow card. This came after Ndou had brutally tackled Thabiso Kutumela from behind.
The keeper of Leopards, Avhashoni Tshinuna, made his presence felt in the 26th minute. Baroka were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Olaleng Shaku unleashed from the set piece and Tshinuna executed a brilliant save.
Leopards' Marks Munyai was lucky to get away with a yellow card. He handled the ball intentionally, but the referee felt for him as he only flashed yellow. Everyone thought he would be taking an early shower.
Both sides effected some changes to their starting line-up in the last half. Leopard brought on Thembisani Neluvhada, Meshack Maphangule and Ivan Mahangwahaya, who replaced Ndamulelo Mugadi, Bongani Manana and Katlego Molomo respectively. Their introduction didn’t change the flow of the match.
Baroka called on Donald Mokondelela and Loyisa Simandla.
Baroka enjoyed ball possession throughout the last half, but they were unfortunate. Marks Munyai of Leopard brought down Lucky Mothwa inside the penalty area and the referee didn’t hesitate to point to the white spot. Their top goal scorer, Thabiso Kutumela, took the kick from the spot and the keeper of Leopards Avhashoni Tshinuna saved the penalty.
Leopards' captain, Siphelele Ntshangase, and their top goal scorer,Thembisani Neluvhada, didn’t perform well as they were tightly marked by Albert Muthupa and Theriso Maphetho.
