DOBSONVILLE – The team from Limpopo performed excellently and came out tops in the national U/23 tournament on the reef last week.

Safa and its sponsor, Sasol, have been travelling around the country in an effort to find suitable players to be roped into the national U/23 fold. The campaign, dubbed “Beijing our destination,” consists of two parallel legs, leading up to the team to represent South Africa in Beijing in 2008.

The campaing started in the Western Cape and continued to unearth talent in all 25 Safa regions. This leg ensured that all provinces produced players capable of representing the provice at the interprovincial level. Each province selected 20 players that formed a side to compete at the interprovincials. In the finals, Limpopo beat Gauteng 1-0, and in the play-off for third place, the Eastern Cape beat Northwest 6-2 on penalties.
