Fabulous awards for Leopards’ best players

THOHOYANDOU – Not only was the new Miss Black Leopards crowned during the club’s beauty contest that was staged at the Makhado College of Education Hall last Saturday evening, but the players whose performance was outstanding during the past season, were awarded for their achievements.

The team’s top goal scorer, Mulondo Sikhwivhilu, received a cheque to the value of R10 000 and a trophy during the ceremony. The diminutive striker, Rudzani Ramudzuli, was nominated the most improved player in the past season. He was awarded a cheque of R5000 and a trophy.

The players were also accorded an opportunity to choose a player whose performance was consistent throughout the season. The award was won by the Mozambican international, Fernando Matola. He was given a cheque of R5 000 and a trophy for his achievement.

Three local businessmen made pledges during the ceremony. The managing director of Kanana Bread, Pastor Isaac Dagada, promised to give the team’s top goal scorer a cheque of R30 000 next season.

The 2005/6 soccer season team’s best player of the season will receive a cheque of R50 000 from Classic Funeral Undertakers. Mr David “Chesterfield” Mureri, the managing director of Reris Insurance Brokers, revealed that the players’ player of the season will walk away with a cheque amounting to R25 000.

During the ceremony, the Sponsorship Manager for MTN South Africa, Mr Victor Rakhale, said they were impressed with their relationship with Black Leopards and that they will continue to sponsor the team for some years ahead.
