Teams interested in taking part in this year’s Taki Games have until next Monday, 7 December, to register.
According to one of the organizers for the tournament, Mr Takalani Prince Rabali, the initial scheduled kick-off date, which is tomorrow, has been moved forward in a bid to accommodate the requests made by the clubs who are still to register for the tournament.
Rabali indicated that a number of teams pleaded with them to give them until next Monday to pay up their registration fee of R500. According to him, they are expecting 32 teams from the Nzhelele Valley and Kutama Sinthumule to battle it out for the championship this year.
The opening matches are expected to be played next weekend. The last 16 matches will be staged at the Rabali Stadium over the weekend of 19 and 20 December, while the final will also be played at the same venue on Saturday, 2 January 2016.
According to Rabali, this year’s champions will go home with R10 00, a floating trophy and gold medals, while a cash prize of R6 000 and silver medals are awaiting the team that will finish in the second spot. The teams booted out of the tournament in the semifinal stage will each take home R2 500, while those losing in the quarterfinal stage will receive a consolation prize of R1 000 each. The last eight teams in the tournament will each receive a soccer kit.
