Joe Maweja lost 1-2 to Winners Park in their ABC Motsepe League match at the Tshifulanani Stadium last Saturday.

The score was not a true reflection of the game as Winners Park could have scored an avalanche of goals during the first half. They created numerous scoring chances, but their strikers were unlucky. Maweja’s right flank, Khumbudzo “Shavy” Muvhango, was warned with a card for a continued argument with the referee in the 18th minute.

Maweja were the first to draw the blood. Their leading goal scorer, Walter Netshimbulu, was on target in the 29th minute. He tried his luck from the 25-meter area with a ground cutter.

Kamogelo Mogashoa of Winners Park and Aluwani Mbedzi of Maweja were reprimanded with cards for exchanging abusive words in the 40th minute. Winners Park were the first to effect change to their starting lineup. They introduced Pitso Ramato for Bonginkosi Hlope two minutes before half time.

Maweja started to play attacking football in the last half. This after they had replaced Mashudu Nyadzani with Takalani Ramagalela. Winners did not panic, despite the fact that time was fast running out for them. They found the equalizer in the 69th minute. Leonard Motshekga beat the keeper after a scramble within the box. Leonard Motshekga was warned with a card three minutes after scoring the goal. He ignored the referee’s whistle and kicked the ball away long after the referee had blown the whistle.

Winners scored the winner via Kleintjie Manganyi in the dying minutes of the game.
