Last weekend was a joyful one for one of the MMK Administrators Soccer League's affiliates, United Artists. They beat Mphego Real Rovers 2-0 at the Mphego grounds on Saturday. They also registered a huge 9-0 victory against Marula XI at the Makwarela Stadium the following day.
Their 2-0 victory against Mphego Real Rovers did not come easily. Rovers managed to match the visitors pound for pound from the onset. Adivhaho Mudau of Rovers was warned with a yellow card in the 14th minute when he tackled Silence Tshikombeni from behind.
Rovers threatened to score in the 19th minute when their fast forward, Vuledzani Ntsieni, unleashed a volley from outside the box. The ball hit the crossbar and bounced outside the field of play for a goal kick. That was a wake-up call to United Artists. They took the game to the opponents, with their midfielders distributing telling passes to the strikers.
Their efforts did not pass without reward as they took the lead in the 37th minute. Maanda “Bartlet” Mulaudzi blasted in a rocket after a scramble within the box.
Artists replaced Silence Tshikombeni with Vuwani Masakona early in the last half. Masakona used his dribbling skills to frustrate the opponents in the middle of the park. Real Rovers missed an easy opportunity in the 64th minute. Their right flank, Bethuel Mbedzi, shot wide from close range with the keeper already beaten.
The home side were reduced to 10 men in the 69th minute. Vele Mahalihali was given his marching orders for retaliating after Kenneth Nthatheni had tackled him roughly. Artists capitalized and scored their second goal in the 78th minute. Takalani Mulaudzi, who came on as a substitute, was on target with a long drive, following a neat pass from Mashudu Siobo.
