In their Vision U/13 Soccer League match at the Vondwe XI Bullets grounds on Sunday, Mukula Young Avalon narrowly beat Makonde Young Tigers 1-0. The score was not a true reflection of the game as Tigers were by far the better side when it came to ball possession.

The Tigers’ bulldozer striker, Mukovhe Munyai, caused numerous upsets in the game. In the first instance, he beat the offside trap but hesitated for too long to unleash until he lost possession at the edge of the box. As if that was not enough to irritate the fans, Munyai caused another upset when his volley missed the target by inches.

The goal that earned Young Avalon three valuable points came in the 28th minute. Humbulani Nenguda was on target, following a neat pass from Maduvha Mutwanamba.

As part of their many ways to neutralize the opponents, Young Tigers introduced Mbulawa Mbengeni for the weary Andani Munyai early in the last half. Kevin Mphidi of Avalon was booked for a dangerous tackle three minutes into the last half. Young Tigers realized that it was not their day when they missed a fortune in the 59th minute. They were awarded a penalty after Thendo Rantsana was brought down within the box. Mukovhe Munyai tried his luck from the penalty spot. The keeper of Avalon, Maluta Gadivhana, braved the shot and executed a brilliant save.

Avalon were also awarded a penalty in the 75th minute. This after Ndivhuwo Matshaya was brought down within the box. The keeper of Avalon, Maluta Gadivhana, took the responsibility of taking the penalty but he shot straight to the Tigers’ keeper.

The results for the other league matches played at the same venue earlier that day are: Vondwe Juventus 2, Mukula Young Santos 1 and Muhuyu Mudzunga Stars 0, Tshififi All Stars 3.
