Muhuyu Mudzunga Stars were crowned the Vision U/13 Soccer League champions during the association’s prize-giving ceremony at the hall of Gumani Technical High School on Sunday afternoon.
The Stars from Muhuyu village were presented with a floating trophy, gold medals and R800. Vondwe Juventus FC, who obtained the second position, were presented with a cash prize of R450, silver medals and a floating trophy. The third-placed side, Mukula Young Santos, were presented with a cash prize of R250, bronze medals and a floating trophy.
The next three teams, Tshififi All Stars, Mukula Young Avalon and Makonde Young Tigers, received cash prizes of R150, R100 and R50 respectively.
During the ceremony, one of the founder members for the league, Mr Thulani Malusele, said that 10 clubs affiliated with the association at the beginning of the season. Four clubs dropped out along the way, leaving only six clubs to complete the league programme.
Malusele appealed to businessmen to lend a helping hand to the association, saying the league was desperately in need of sponsorship. A representative from the Department of Sports, Art and Culture in the Limpopo Province, Mr Thitovholwi Mphaphuli, stated that his department was not in a position to assist the league financially. He pledged, however, that he would personally assist the league financially next season.
