Louis Trichardt cricketers demolish Potgietersrus

Sport  Date: 23 April 2004

POLOKWANE - The Louis Trichardt Cricket Club's first team followed up their win over Potgietersrus two weeks ago with a convincing win against Pietersburg Eagles in Polokwane on Sunday, 17 April, 2004.

Louis Trichardt won the toss and elected to field first. The Eagles side batted steadily, with openers Justin le Roux (24) and Christopher Cardasa (19) putting together a 50 partnership for the first wicket. Although most of the batsmen who followed contributed double figures, none was able to carry on and make a big score. Louis Trichardt's bowlers kept up the pressure in the field, and wickets falling regularly kept the scoring in check. Eagles lost their last wicket in the 41st over with the total on 171.

For Louis Trichardt, Leon Fourie (4/48) and Gerrie Oelofse (2/29), shared the bulk of the wickets. Louis Trichardt needed to score at 3.4 runs per over, but their batsmen must have thought that they were in a Pro-Twenty match, because a terrible batting onslaught befell the Eagles bowlers.

Leon Fourie carried on where he had left off in the previous match, and smashed 77 runs in double-quick time. In the process of earning his second man-of-the-match award in as many games, Leon scored the bulk of his runs in boundaries (15 x fours and 1 x six).

Louis Trichardt were cruising along at 88/1 after ten overs, and 101/2 after 14 overs, and although Eagles managed to pick up a few wickets, their bowlers were unable to break Louis Trichardt's momentum, and Chrisjan Hendriks (24 not out) together with Gerrie Oelofse (22 not out), finished the match off in the 27th over, giving Louis Trichardt victory by 5 wickets.

For Pietersburg Eagles, Christopher Cardasa (3/41) and Adriaan Rossouw (2/40) achieved a measure of success with the ball.
