Makovha All Stars deposited full points into their league account, following their 2-1 victory over Dididi Manguvhewa FC in their MMK Administrators League match at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday.
The game was played at a see-saw pace, with both sides creating and wasting their scoring chances. Manguvhewa realized that it was not their day when they lost a fortune nine minutes into the game. Foster Makamu received a pre-cooked pass from Stanley Mathoma but shot wide with the keeper already beaten.
The Stars were the first to blow the trumpet. Itumeleng Netswinga was on target with a header in the 24th minute. Netswinga finished the ball off, following a scramble within the box. As if they were already certain of victory, the players of Stars relaxed with the ball within their own danger area. They were punished for that.
Lyod Nduma, Manguvhewa's lethal striker, forced his way through the defence of Stars and beat the keeper with a ground cutter in the 38th minute to bring the half-time score to 1-1.
Manguvhewa introduced Abraham Tshishonga and sacrificed Stanley Mathoma three minutes into the last half. The Stars responded by effecting three changes to their starting 11. They replaced Rodney Mmbengwa, Itumeleng Netswinga and Tshilidzi Ngobeli with Richard Chauke, Thendo Phalanndwa and Rendani Masindi respectively.
The goal that earned Stars three vital points came in the 78th minute. Kenneth Chuma sent the keeper the wrong way with a close-range half volley. The Stars played defensive football for the remaining part of the game.
