Eight teams from Tshaulu and the surrounding villages are gearing up for the Boy Nemakonde KO Competition.
The tournament was officially launched during a ceremony at the Begwa Brickyard last Saturday. The eight teams that will participate in the annual event are: Buluni Happy Boys, Munangwe United Brothers, Madandila Happy Boys, Mubvumoni Freedom Fighters, Tshaulu Powerlines, Gunda Blue Birds, Tshaulu Hungry Lions and Nnduvheni FC.
All matches, including the final, will be staged at the Tshifudi Stadium. The quarterfinal matches will be played next Saturday, 11 June.
During the ceremony it was announced that this year’s champions will take home a cash prize of R10 000, a floating trophy, soccer kit, gold medals, six soccer balls and soccer boots. The runners-up will be presented with R1 500, soccer kit, silver medals, six soccer balls and soccer boots. The third-placed side will receive R1 000, bronze medals, six soccer balls and soccer boots. The team booted out of the tournament in the losers’ final stage will receive six soccer balls.
According to one of the organizers of the tournament, Mr Eric Murudi, several individual awards will be presented to the tournament’s top goal scorer, player of the tournament, best coach and the best keeper. They will each receive a cash prize of R1 000.
The final will be played on Saturday, 25 June. Tshaulu Powerlines are the defending champions.
