The U/11 netball team from Masindi Primary School continues to be the toast of the district and province as they seem to excel at the Ubuntu South Africa Schools Netball (Ubuntu SASN) every year.
The team and their two coaches, Mesdames Sayo Matidza and Grace Mathivha, have just returned from Tzaneen, where they were crowned the Limpopo champions in the Ubuntu SASN's U/11 age group. The matches were held at Tzaneen's Ben Vorster Hoërskool on 3 June.
According to Mathivha, the team had known that they were going to bring the medals and a trophy home. “We knew we would be the winners,” she said. “We have got a winning formula, which is practice, practice and practice!”
She told Limpopo Mirror that they had started with preparation last year and added that winning for them had not come as a surpirise. “We are celebrating the success that had come through hard work,” she said.
Ms Sayo Matidza said that their joy was great. “The team continues to put our school on the map,” she said. “We may only have one kit for our little girls, but we know how to train them into winners.” She explained that the team that won this year was a completely new team. “The team that won last year and even played in Durban is now at secondary school level,” she said. “And they are still going stronger, even though they are no longer with us here at this school.”
The netball coaches stated that the team they had trained had managed to win at different levels, despite not having proper training facilities and attire. “We also would like to thank all parents for entrusting us with the lives of their children as we move up and down doing good netball projects that also empower these children,” Matidza said.
