Athletes from Harmony Gold dominated the Thohoyandou Spar-Mirror Half-marathon at Thohoyandou on Saturday. Athletes from this prestigious club took the first four positions in the men’s division and the first three women back home were also from Harmony Gold.
The Kenian athlete, Christopher Kanda, won the men’s race. The race nearly ended tragically, as he was run over by a traffic official less than two kilometers from the finish line.
The results of the race are as follows:
21,1 km senior men: Christopher Kanda, Bethuel Netshifhefhe, Johannes Monyela.
21,1 km senior women: Sihadi Mbofolowo, Livhuwani Maduka, T Mundalamo.
21,1 km junior men: TT Mohlamme, T Ravele, RL Mudau.
21,1 km junior women: Humbulani Thenga, Nancy Ramahanedzha.
21,1 km veteran men: S Ngovheni.
21,1km veteran women: A Mavhina.
21,1km corporate relay: Vhavenda Bricks.
10km men: MP Khoshi, Emmanuel Mphohoni, Abel Nemukula.
10km women: Azwanaki Ndou, D Mashavana, M Mainganya.
About 350 athletes participated in the race and the proceeds, R50 000, will be presented to a charitable organization in due course.
The organisers wish to thank the following organizations:
