Matangari Uprising Stars were crowned the champions of the Benjies Discount World Soccer Tournament at the Khubvi Benjies grounds on Sunday. They beat Tshandama Try Together 3-2 in the final.

Both sides missed numerous scoring opportunities. Tshandama Try Together introduced two new faces early in the second half in a bid to solidify their striking force. The winner was determined through a penalty shoot-out as the scoreboard was still blank at the end of the regulation time.

Meshack Ramatamba, Muofhe Mudau and Mulanga Netshisaulu scored for Uprising Stars, while Tshandama’s two goals came via Awelani Mphigalale and Tsimbe Thomoli.

Uprising Stars were presented with a cash prize of R1 700 during a ceremony at the grounds shortly after the final whistle. Tshandma Try Together took home a cash prize of R1 000. The teams booted out in the semifinal stage, Khubvi Dangerous Darkies and Damani Powerlines, were each presented with consolation prize of R200.

Eight teams from Khubvi and the surrounding areas took part in the tournament.
