Madridtas FC will not take part in the next stage of the prestigious Nedbank Cup competition. They were booted out of the competition by Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) 1-0 at the Makwarela Stadium on Saturday.

Madridtas’ leading goal scorer, Dakalo “Akonkwo” Nemakonde, could not live up to the fans’ expectations and the only time he threatened to score was when he unleashed a half volley from the edge of the box, following a beautiful pass from Lucky Masutha in the 11^th minute. TTM knocked on Madridtas’s door for the first time 18 minutes into the game. Their striker, Lufuno “CJ” Mugodi, missed a fortune after receiving a great pass from Sello Tshabalala.

Mugodi chose to shoot aimlessly from inside the box. The ball hit the woodwork and landed outside the field of play for a goal kick. The captain of Madridtas, Ndivhuwo Masakona, was the first player to go into the referee’s book. He tackled Sello Tshabalala from behind and the referee, Mr Olani Kwinda, was quick to produce a yellow card.

Madridtas were the first to effect change to their starting line-up. They replaced their right winger, Lucky Masutha, with an overlapping defender, Ernot Dzaga, nine minutes into the second half. TTM responded by introducing Francis Baloyi for Thabiso Lekgau.

Baloyi was brought down within the penalty box and that was a clear penalty for TTM. Forster Nkuna made no mistake from the white spot.

Ernot Dzaga of Madridtas was also booked for a late tackle on Edward Malaka. Rolivhuwa Mukwevho of TTM was unlucky in the 78^th minute. His long-range volley missed the target by inches. The game turned lukewarm in the last 10 minutes as both sides played aerial balls from behind.
