Top cycling event promises to be bigger and better

The Powerade Kremetart is an annual event organized by the P&L Hardware Cycling Club and this year promises to be bigger than ever.

The main event, the 175km 4-stage race, takes place around the Soutpansberg and offers panoramic views of the mountain. It winds its way past several stunning Baobabs and other bushveld vegetation. The entire section of the route from Vivo to Makhado (Louis Trichardt) will be upgraded before the race. It is said that the traditional “cowboy trail” will become a “smoothie” this year.

This year’s Kremetart saw the first substantial sponsorship by the Coca-Cola Company in the form of Powerade. With their generous input, the organisers say they feel at ease to promise that this year’s race will be very special. The other traditional sponsors, namely P&L Hardware, Coca-Cola Fortune, Dulux, the Makhado Municipality, PPC Cement, Pie City and Startel will also again prove that their involvement are necessities to the success of this event.

The astronomic growth in the P&L Hardware Cycling Club’s membership (from 17 members in 2004 to 213 in 2006) is said to emphasize the positive cycling vibe at present in Louis Trichardt. Club members apparently cannot wait to give visiting cyclists the best ever cycling and “bosveld kuier” experience during this year’s event. Due to public demand, this year’s event will also see the return of the famous free Bosveld Potjie dinner. Cyclists will finish at the Tourism Info Kiosk where a lot of fun, festivities and entertainment will meet them at the Kremetart Carnival.

According to the organisers, buses (luxury and semi-luxury) will be available to transport supporters, friends and families of cyclists to stage finishes before winners arrive at this year’s race. The same meals and refreshments (breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, potjie dinner, Coke, Powerade and Bonaqua bottled water) catered for cyclists will be available to bussers.
