Victory at last for Magezi

After donating league points to their opponents in their last eight matches, Magezi FC rose to the occasion and beat Milano United 1-0 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Saturday.

The former Black Leopards sharpshooter, Thembisani Nevhulamba, scored the only goal in the 29th minute. He beat the keeper with a half volley, following a beautiful pass from Gift Ramaxwaila.

Magezi moved one step up on the log and are now in the second-last position on the log with 16 points, one more than Santos.

Black Leopards failed to reduce the gap that separates them and the pace setters, Thanda Royal Zulu.  This follows their 1-2 defeat at the hands of Stellenbosch FC at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. It took the home side only six minutes to open their account. Tshepo Mabua found the net with a ground cutter after a brilliant pass from David Steyn.

The Cape Town side increased the margin in the 25th minute after Stanely Muishod caught the Leopards keeper napping. Leopards’ solitary goal came in the 45th minute, when Mwape Musonda scored from the penalty spot.

Amazulu collected full points last weekend. They beat Mbombela United 1-0 at the Kanyamazane Stadium in Nelspruit. The former Black Leopards forward, Roggert Nyundu, scored Amazulu’s all-important goal in the 75th minute.

Thanda Royal Zulu shared the spoils 1-1 with Mthatha Bucks, Royal Eagles beat Santos 3-2, Witbank Spurs and Jomo Cosmos drew 2-2, the University of Pretoria lost 2-3 to Real Kings, while Cape Town All Stars and FC Cape Town played to a goalless draw.
