The Lidoda Duvha League match between Giant Killers and United Artists, which was played at the Muledane grounds on Saturday, ended in a dramatic fashion. The hosts, Giant Killers, were leading 2-1 when the game took an ugly turn and was ultimately abandoned.
The game provided maximum entertainment from the word go, with both sides creating chances for their strikers. The visitors from Lufule squandered an early chance when Philip Murubi shot wide after beating the opponents’ defence. Fhulufhelo Ndou of Giant Killers caused an upset when he missed the target with the Artists’ keeper, Kenneth Makondo, already beaten. Two Giant Killers’ players, Solomon Muthubi and Eric Tshivhase, were booked for dangerous tackles in the 18th and 24th minute respectively.
The visiting side took the lead when the game was 28 minutes old. Philip Muruba headed home after a place kick that was taken by Lindelani Makuya to bring the half-time score to 1-0. Debras Nevhufumba scored the Killers’ equalizer seven minutes into the last half.
Lindelani Makuya of Artists was given his marching orders for the use of abusive language. Eric Tshinavhe of Giant Killers lost his temper a little later and hit an opponent with a fist for no apparent reason. He was red-carded as well.
Debras Nevhufumba completed his brace in the 75th minute when he went loose from the right-hand corner and blasted in a ground cutter. The game took an ugly turn when the keeper of Artists, Kenny Makondo, abandoned his position and proceeded to the middle of the park, from where he ran amok and started hitting the Killers’ players and fans with fists. The players and fans for Killers soon mobilised and Makondo found himself in big trouble. He then ran away.
Realizing that the situation was getting out of hand, the players and officials for Artists left the pitch, packed their bags and left the place. The players for Killers remained in the field of play for the remaining 15 minutes until the referee, Mr Eric Rambau, blew the final whistle.
