LTT side recover after defeat against Giyani

The Louis Trichardt Cricket Club made up for their loss a week ago against Giyani, when they beat the Univen side by 83 runs on Sunday morning.

The third round of the Vhembe T20 league took place on Sunday and LTT’s A side came up against the visitors from Thohoyandou. The home side batted first and their opening pair put up a 58-run partnership before Chris-Jan Hendriks (21) was bowled. Leon Olwage carried on with his destruction and scored 44 from 29 balls.

Leon Furstenburg was in devastating form and scored an unbeaten 48 runs from 36 balls. He was well supported by Jandré Hancke (12) and Juan Phillips (18 not out), who helped take the score to 159/5.

For Univen, Tshepo Mhlonga was the most successful bowler, taking 2/24 in his four overs.

Chris-Jan Hendriks ripped through Univen’s top order, taking 3/11 in four overs and effectively putting the visitors on the back foot. Jandré Hancke supported him from the other side, taking 3/18 in four overs. When the two of them handed back the ball, the score stood at 23 runs.

For Univen, Salman (12) and Asim (29) tried to put up a fight, but it was a bit late. Christo Boshoff (2/20) helped to clean up the tail. The last wicket fell in the 17th over with the score on 76.

On Sunday, 3 September, Giyani’s side travelled to Louis Trichardt in the second round of the local T20 league. Louis Trichardt batted first, but lost two quick wickets. Nimesh Watekar (33) and Leon Furstenburg (32) then put up a 50 partnership to get things moving. When they lost their wickets, it all crumbled and only Jandré Hancke (13) could manage double figures. When the last wicket fell in the 19th over, the score was 119.

Giyani’s bowlers, led by Perm Mhlambo (2/13 in four overs) and Willard Mazwanganyi (3/30 in four) were lethal. Taj Kazi did an excellent job cleaning up the middle order and took 4/19 in four overs.

After losing an early wicket, Huzela Patel (31) and Dingani Mathonzi (29) started the chase. Dingani was especially devastating, scoring his 29 runs from only 14 balls, which included one six and four boundaries. Rock Matimba Khosa (24 not out) helped to take the score to 120 in the 18th over with six wickets down.

Louis Trichardt’s bowlers should only blame themselves for the loss. They allowed no fewer than 25 extras, which included 20 wides. Their most successful bowlers were Christo Boshoff (2/20) and Jandré Hancke (2/10).

This coming Sunday, two matches are scheduled at the local field and one at Cloud's End. Giyani’s side will test their strength against Univen and in the afternoon Bochum will play against Louis Trichardt. During the morning session, the team from Bochum will play against Eltivillas at Cloud's End. Eltivillas are unbeaten in the league at this stage.
