Tigers the Khethi Gavhi champions once more

Mushiru Young Tigers retained the Khethi Gavhi Soccer Tournament trophy after beating Madandila Happy Boys 3-1 in the final at the Mushiru grounds on Sunday.

Tigers beat Nnduvheni FC 5-4 in their quarterfinal match at the same venue the previous day. The winner was determined through penalty shoot-out, following a 1-1 full-time draw. They then beat Lukalo Hotspurs 4-1 in the semifinal.

Young Tigers received R1 000, a floating trophy, soccer kit and a soccer ball during a ceremony at the grounds after the final game. Madandila Happy Boys took home R1 000 and a soccer ball. The third-placed side, Lukalo Hotspurs, received R500 and a soccer ball.

Mubvumoni XI Arrows, who obtained the fourth position, were given R250 and a soccer ball. The teams that were booted out in the quarterfinal stage, Begwa United Brothers FC, Nduvheni FC, Munangwe United Brothers and Mutshetshe Hungry Lions, each received a soccer ball.

During the ceremony the sponsor, Mr Khethi Gavhi, thanked the organizers and the players for making sure that the tournament was a success. He stated that he would continue to sponsor the tournament in coming years. His words were echoed by the local ward councillor, Cllr Florence Munyai, and the representative from the Mushiru royal family, Mr Maluta Nekhwalivha.

During the ceremony, five learners from a local school, Mushiru Primary, were each presented with a full school uniform.

Frank is a Human Resources Manager at the Department of Public Works in Limpopo. He is the longest serving correspondent of the Mirror, having joined us at the end of 1990.  He mainly writes sports reports and resides at Tsianda Village. In 2004, Frank won the National Castle League Award, an award for the best reporter in the SAB league in South Africa.
