Hungry Lions grab the Dzanani trophy

DZANANI – Last Sunday was the harvest day for the teams that were affiliated to the Dzanani District Football Association last season. The glittering prize-giving ceremony was held at the Makhado (Dzanani) Netshidaulu Hall.

Cash prizes amounting to R55 000 were dished out to the clubs during the ceremony. The champions for the Super League, Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions, received a cheque to the value of R5500 and a floating trophy during the cere-mony.

The runner-up, Shanzha Continentals, took home an amount of R3 900 while the third-placed Matanda Golden Arrows became R3 500 richer. Teams that obtained the fourth to the tenth positions received cash prizes ranging from R3 000 down to R1 000.

The remaining teams went home with consolation prizes of R500 each. The champions for the First Division League, Mudimeli Scientists Football Club were given an amount of R4 000 and a floating trophy during the ceremony. Lutomboni Junior Fire Boys took home a cheque valued at R2 800.

During the ceremony, it was announced that the Super League champions, Tshivhilidulu Hungry Lions will be campaigning in the Solly’s Discount World Soccer League when the activities for the new season start early next month.

The prizes for the U/17 league were also dished out during the ceremony. The team that finished the season on top of the log, Vhulaudzi Fire Boys, received a cash prize of R400 and a floating trophy. The coach of Black Leopards Football Club, Mr Ephraim “Shakes” Mashaba, delivered a keynote ad-dress during the ceremony.

He appreciated the job that the district is doing towards the development of football in the area. He mentioned that the fact that there are two Black Leopards players, Rudzani Ramudzuli and Amon Phophi, who are based in the Nzhelele Valley is an indication that the district is committed to uplifting the standard of football in the area.
