Who will lift the MMK League trophy?

The overall champions of the MMK Administrators Soccer League will be known on Sunday afternoon. Tshakhuma RO Nandilani and Berea FC will meet in the final at the Makhuvha Stadium.

Nothing will stop Nandilani from lifting the trophy if their performance in their champ-of-champs matches is anything to go by. They won all their group stage matches at the Tshifulanani Stadium last Saturday.

Their opening match was against Berea FC, whom they beat 2-0. They secured a place in the semifinal stage after beating Nweli Stone Breakers 2-1 later that afternoon.

Their semifinal match was against Mpheni Home Defenders, whom they beat 4-3 at the Makhuvha Stadium the following day. The winner was determined through penalty shootout as the full-time score was 0-0.

Berea’s way to the final was rocky and thorny. They secured a place in the semifinal stage by being the best runners-up in the group stages. This after they lost their opening group stage match against Tshakhuma RO Nandilani 0-2, but then they overpowered Nweli Stone Breakers 6-1 in their second match.

Berea rose to the occasion and proved all the critics wrong by beating the hot favourites, Wayeni Sea Robbers, 2-1 in their semifinal match.

The team’s coaches, Mr Rofhiwa Muligwe (Berea) and his Nandilani counterpart, Mr Mashudu “Coolio” Ndou, said they had what it took to win the championship.

Mpheni Home Defenders and Wayeni Sea Robbers will lock horns in their losers’ final match at 12:00, while the final is scheduled to kick off at 14:30.

The champions will receive a cash prize of R60 000 and a floating trophy. They will represent Vhembe Region in the provincial promotional playoff tournament that will be staged at the Giyani Stadium next month.

The top two teams in the provincial playoffs will be promoted to the ABC Motsepe League. Vhembe Region was represented by Mikhado FC last year.
