Mandawu celebrates ten years in Special Olympics

 

Rofhiwa Manwadu has celebrated his 10th anniversary in the Special Olympics in style by staging a “Special Olympics” games in his name.

The games were held at the Thohoyandou Indoor Sport Centre last Saturday. With the assistance of Cedric Mashapha and other people, Manwadu, also a person with special needs, organized for sponsors to make sure that special schools from all over Vhembe were transported to the event.

Meals, drinks and trophies were also covered by the sponsors, as in previous years.

Three types of sports were played, floor hockey, bocee’ and futsal (women football for people with special needs).

Grace and Love took position one in floor hockey, while Risongoneta Special School won the bocce’ and Nesengani came first in futsal.

Meanwhile, Tshilwavhusiku Razwimisani has been selected to represent Vhembe in floor hockey during the provincial games to be played on a date to be announced.

The players selected are Duncan Livhusa, Tshimangadzo Sasa, Baldwin Sepheyi, Mpho Moyede, Humbulani Mashiane,  Gudani Manenzhe, Hulisani Munasi, Tshivbumo Mutavhatsindi, Junior Malange, Unarine Mufhadi, Vincent Sikhwama, Khomotso Ramuthivheli, Christopher Masindi, Ritshidze Nelushi and Tshilidzi Muvhulawa. The team will be coached by MW Petlo, assisted by TE Ravhura. 

Razwimisani are the current world champions in floor hockey after they won a gold medal during the previous Special Olympics.

Another local school, Grace and Love, was also crowned world champions, also in floor hockey, during the world tournament played in South Korea in 2013.

Manwadu, who has toured all over the world as a Special Olympics ambassador in Vhembe, says he is excited about celebrating ten years. Thulamela Local Municipality and Vhembe District Municipality also sent their councillors to represent them during the games played last week.

Thulamela was represented by Mayor Cllr Mushoni Tshifhango, while Vhembe was represented by Cllr Rapson Rambuwani, also a person living with albinism. Phalaphala FM was represented by its manager, Mr Freddy Sadiki, and the programme manager, Ms Sharon Ravele. Mr Desmond Mulaudzi from Old Mutual represented all the sponsors.
