HAMAKHUVHA – Vondwe Dangerous Tigers are the 2004 champions of the SK Newlook Electrics KO competition. They beat Sambandou United Professionals Football Club 1-0 in the final at the Hamakhuvha SK grounds on Saturday.
This was a replay fixture, as the two teams first played at the same venue on Good Friday. The match was rescheduled after the teams played to a goalless draw. Saturday's game was a thriller, having all the ingredients for a cup final.
United Professionals wasted a number of chances in the opening minutes, with their strikers shooting aimlessly at close range. Realising that the opponents were making use of their height advantage, Tigers started to initiate some dangerous moves from their defence wall.
They combined well with the midfielders who also dished some telling passes to their frontrunners. The first player to go into the referee's book was Rudzan Matambele of Dangerous Tigers. He hooked Takalani Mutavhatsindi from behind. The goal that saw Tigers win the championship came in the 75th minute. A substitute, Takalani Elekanyani, crossed the ball to Nthambeleni Nendauni, who easily beat the keeper with a header.
Rofhiwa Ratshili of United Professional was also booked for rough tackling later in the game. United Professionals tried everything within their power in their search for the equaliser, but nothing changed. Dangerous Tigers will receive an amount of R2 000 and a floating trophy during a prize-giving ceremony that will take place later this month.
