Bullets are the Globe Finance champions

Last Saturday was harvest day for the 16 teams that took part in the 2006 Globe Finance KO Competition.

The competition’s prize-giving ceremony was held at the Avkhom Hotel hall in Thohoyandou. The champions of the competition, Vondwe XI Bullets, received a floating trophy and a cash prize of R2 000 during the glittering ceremony.

The runners-up, Khubvi Peace Makers, took home a cheque to the value of R1 400. Tshatshingo Potholes, who obtained the third position, received a cheque of R750, while Makonde Manchester United received the fourth prize of R500.

The teams that were booted out of the competition in the Top 8 stage were each given a cash prize of R250, while those that were knocked out in the opening stage received a consolation prize of R100 each.

During the ceremony, a representative from the sponsor, Mrs Elisa Ramashia, said that her company, Globe Finance, was impressed by the manner in which the competition was run. She further revealed that the sponsorship will increase annually.

The U/14 teams also received their prizes during the ceremony. The champions, Tshifulalani Crystal Palace, were presented with a cheque of R800, while the second-placed Makhanda Development received a cash prize of R500.

The top goal scorer in the tournament, Elekanyani Maboho of Tshatshingo Potholes, received R250 for his achievement. The award for the best player of the tournament went to Tshifhiwa Thayani of Khubvi Peace Makers. He was also presented with a cheque of R250.

The same prize went to the best referee of the tournament, Calvin Nemavhola.

The assistant coach of Black Leopards, Mr Reginald Matloga, delivered a keynote address during the ceremony. He praised the sponsors for ploughing back a portion of their profits back into the community, through sponsoring a sports development project.
