The draw for the Absa Top-8 matches was conducted at Church Square in Pretoria on Monday morning. The draw has sparked speculation among football fanatics that this will be the last stage for Dynamos in the competition.
The pride of Giyani drew the defending Castle Premiership League champions, Mamelodi Sundows. To make it more of a tricky hurdle for the only Limpopo Province side in the competition, Mamelodi Sundowns have won the home ground advantage.
Sundowns beat the bantam division side, Yebo Yes, in the top-32 stage of the competition. Their way to the top-8 stage went via Maritzburg United, whom they narrowly beat 1-0. On the other hand, Dynamos’ opening fixture was against PJ Stars, whom they crushed 1-0.
Ri khomeni ri nga peli, as Dynamos are affectionately known, came back from a 0-1 deficit to beat Garankuwa United 2-1 in the last-16 stage of the competition at the Giyani Stadium three weeks ago. But the Dynamos’ head coach, Antenne Eshete, is adamant that his side will give Sundows a run for their money when they meet in two weeks’ time.
The match will be played at the Loftus Stadium in Pretoria. Silver Stars will meet Supersport United in this stage of the competition. The Stars will enjoy the home-ground advantage as the match will be played at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg.
The other team that will play in front of their home crowd is Bloemfontein Celtic. They will lock horns with Ajax Cape Town at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium in Bloemfontein. Santos and Benoni Premier United will fight for a place in the semi-final stage of the competition at the Athlone Stadium in Cape Town. The matches will be played over the weekend of April 14 and 15.
