Dynamic and vibrant ... That is the phrase that members of the P&L Hardware Cycling Club like to use to describe themselves and the races they present.
After earning top honours out of 351 rated events on the "Rate your Race" forum on Super Cycling, the organizers of the Kremetart are very excited and eager to present an even better race this year - with no increase in the entry fees. The unprecedented interest in the race, however, resulted in a restriction of 1 500 entries for the Stage Race and 1 000 for the Kremetart Hundred.
The Powerade Kremetart, this year hosted on June 9, is an annual event organized by the P&L Hardware Cycling club in Louis Trichardt. The town is well-known for its picturesque locality in the shade of the majestic Soutpansberg Mountain. The main event, the 175km four-stages race takes place around the Soutpansberg and offers panoramic views of the mountain. It winds its way past several stunning Baobabs and other Bushveld vegetation. The entire section of the route from Vivo to Louis Trichardt was upgraded last year. The well-known "cowboy trail" became a "smoothie" in 2006. The route will once again be in excellent condition.
Last year marked the first year of substantial sponsorship by the Coca-Cola Company in the form of Powerade. Their generous input will once again ensure that the organizers can pull out all the plugs and make sure that this year´s race is very special. New names (Fishaways, Makhado Crossing, Wimpy and Mike’s Kitchen), together with the traditional sponsors, P&L Hardware, Coca-Cola Fortune, Makhado Municipality, PPC Cement, and Startel will once again prove that their involvement are necessities to the success of this event.
The astronomic growth in club membership of the P&L Hardware Cycling Club, from 17 members in 2004 to over 200 in 2006, just emphasizes the positive cycling vibe at present in Louis Trichardt. Many eager club members can’t wait to give visiting cyclists the best ever cycling and "Bosveld kuier" experience at the Kremetart. By public demand, the famous free "Bosveld Potjie" made a very welcome return last year. The potjie, together with good live entertainment after the race, is definitely back to stay. Cyclists will start and finish at the Tourism Info Kiosk where a lot of fun, festivities and entertainment will meet them at the Kremetart Carnival.
Buses will be available to transport supporters, friends and family of cyclists to stage finishes before winners arrive. A tour guide will accompany bus passengers. The same meals and refreshments (breakfast, lunch, afternoon snacks, potjie dinner, Coke and Powerade) catering for cyclists will be available to bus passengers.
