Big dreams for young local soccer star

At the age of 17, the talented young Lindelani Mudau of Shayandima is looking forward to being a member of the national soccer team, Bafana Bafana, during the World Cup tournament that will be hosted by South Africa in June 2010.

Lindelani was a left back for Shayandima Real Dragons U/14, before he was lured to join the SAFA Transnet School of Excellence in 2003. It did not take long for him to prove to his technical staff that he was one of the best young talents this region has ever produced.

It was during the Supersport National U/17 tournament which was staged at Balfourpark in Johannesburg in 2004 that Lindelani scooped his first gold medal. The year 2005 saw him taking home another gold medal during the MTN national youth championships at the Soshanguve Stadium.

The same tournament was staged at the Kagiso Stadium last year. That is where Lindelani earned another gold. As if that was not enough, the grade 12 star came back with another gold medal during the International Schools Federation Championships, which were held in Chili early this year.

Lindelani revealed that his dream is to play for any England-based team. According to him, he has no intention to seek employment after completing his tertiary education. He said that he will instead pursue his sporting career on a full-time basis.

Lindelani is not the first child to make his mother proud. His elder brother, Tshilidzi, played for the national U/23 team in 2002. Tshlidzi was a regular player for the now-defunct Umtata Bucks in 2003.
