Ngwenani Manchester United were crowned the champions for the 2007 Nev Productions KO competition. They beat Table New Comers 1-0 in the final at the Phandulaluvalo grounds in Tshifudi on Saturday.
The game was played under protest. Manchester United lodged a protest at the beginning of the game. They argued that the match should be declared a walk-over in their favour, as Table New Comers arrived at the grounds 30 minutes after the scheduled 14:00 starting time.
New Comers were the superiors in the first half in terms of ball possession. They squandered numerous scoring opportunities during the first 20 minutes of the game. Their first player to cause an upset was Livhuwani Masindi, who shot wide from close range.
Ndishavhelafhi Ramatshimbila of United was cautioned with a card for a dangerous tackle on Mulalo Manngo in the 14th minute. Phumudzo Nembudani and Mashudu Sigidi, both of New Comers, were warned verbally for different infringements.
Manchester United missed a fortune nine minutes into the last half. They were awarded a penalty after a defender of New Comers handled the ball within his own danger area in the 55th minute. Oscar Ntsumbedzeni shot wide from the white spot.
The goal that made Manchester United the champions came in the 76th minute. Tendamudzimu Mulaudzi scored easily after a scramble within the box. Manchester United will be presented with a cheque to the value of R4500 during a ceremony that will be held in due course.
